The Next Time I'm in Town 2003-08-14 - 3:20 p.m. I'm supposed to be packing boxes for the impending move. Instead, I'm writing this. Don't tell. All I've got left is books, anyway, and I'm making gradual headway with them. For now the biggest problem is where to put the boxes. It's too early and too hot to store books in the garage, (mustn't let them mold,) and I'm running out of floor space. I'll eventually have to take the shelves down off of one or more of the book cases and stack them in there, but I'm avoiding it for the time being, since the one that's the closest to empty is in a somewhat awkward place for that. So I have one big pile of CD and movie boxes in one corner, a few rows of book boxes at the foot of the bed, and a giant pyramid of empty liquor store donated boxes in the other available corner (blocking the two shelves I have to get at next, as luck would have it).Meanwhile I'm making the key decisions regarding what to take down, and when. I've decided that one can never have too many plates and bowls, especially when there's storage space for them in the garage. I won't have housemates forever, and I'd like to be able to feed myself in a semi-civilized fashion when I don't. I'm bringing my rug, though at this point it's not clear where it would fit. Worst case, it should snazzy up the area underneath my bed. It's just a simple white, essentially a chunk of carpet with unfrayed ends, but it's still a slight bump in class from unadorned floor. I've recently gotten my hands on a giant (if a little more than half used) candle. The sort that have four or five wells to light. If the others like it, it'll go in the living room. If not, it'll be my balcony candle. I have a couple others that are less burned out, so there should be at least one that'll jive in the living room and one for the Batcave. Assuming we land the place I think we will. Got a nice butcher block dining room table, a coffee table, and a cruddy little desk. There are two desk lamps to go on it, (or more probably one of the bookshelves). Should be all set. I just hope there's enough room for me to use my guitar stand, rather than just leaning them both against the wall in their cases. The acoustic really has a beautiful grain, and it's a shame not to display it. The goal is to be "classy" this time around. I'm even framing my pictures. In honest to God frames. What will they think of next? What started out as a "day in the life" sort of entry has quickly devolved into a list of my furniture, and that's just not good reading. My appologies, and I'll stop now before I get into the weave of my couch... Music for the day is the Travelling Wilburrys' "Cool Dry Place," a comic tale about having to buy a new place just to store one's instruments. Don't need to go that far just yet, but I have an awfully nice collection for someone who can hardly play. Those of you who are going to be local, I charge you with harassing me to improve in that area. Because if the housemates complain about a discordant Stratocaster, I'm intending to blame you.
